In tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s lifetime of service to others, Austin 1st Platoon will be in action to take part in community celebrations held all over the great city of Austin. Join us for a morning of gardening at the Sustainable Food Center! SFC cultivates a healthy community by strengthening the local food system and improving access to nutritious, affordable food. We will be doing a garden clean up, weeding, spreading mulch, making small repairs, and other similar tasks. MLK Day of Service will begin with a kick-off breakfast at United Way for Greater Austin (2000 E MLK Blvd, 78702) at 8:30 am. We will then disperse from the kick-off breakfast to Sustainable Food Center! If you cannot attend the breakfast, please meet at the SFC office at 9:30am where we will walk to the gardens together. Tool and materials, but feel free to bring your favorite pair of gloves and hand tools. *YOUTH MUST BE 12 years or older and accompanied by an adult! All participants under the age of 18 must have a signed liability form by a parent/ guardian. Contact Paula for the form in advance. (paula@sustainablefoodcenter.org) .
