Hilltop Community Children’s Center - March

March 09, 2024

10:00 AM - 02:00 PM EST

Pittsburgh Platoon

Event overview

On March 9: The Mission Continues-Pittsburgh will join our newest community partner and their staff at Hilltop Community Children’s Center to celebrate their creative learning space. Volunteers will be able to help to redecorate the Rec Room and remove carpet. The children at the center use the space for various large motor activities, passive play space, and even napping. This room will also have numerous safety features added, like corner protection and outlet cover changes to give it a fresh new underwater theme. Throughout the building there will be other opportunities, including but not limited the following: cleaning and sanitizing the toys, tables, and chairs in the classroom areas and small building projects for additional shelving and storage, toy sorting, and materials gathering and sharing.

There may also be opportunities for outdoor play space enhancement, but this will be decided the week of, pending weather and volume of volunteers.

Not suitable for children under 10 unless cleared by Ashley. This is a learning environment, but we will not have sitting onsite for children under 10. Due to chemical cleaners and little lungs we need to keep little ones at home.

Lunch and refreshments provided.

Come for the whole event or just an hour! Anything helps.

T-shirts will be provided.

Who We Are

The Mission Continues is a national non-profit that empowers veterans to continue serving in our nation’s under-resourced communities, giving veterans the opportunity to keep serving even after the uniform comes off, right here at home. Our programs deploy veterans and volunteers to work alongside nonprofit partners and community leaders to improve educational resources, tackle food insecurity, foster neighborhood identity, and more.

Who should volunteer?

Our service projects are for all veterans with a desire to continue their service and for all non-veterans that want to be part of a nationwide movement to transform communities. Please note, age and accessibility accommodations can be made at any project. There is room for everyone to make an impact.

What is a Service Platoon?

Service Platoons are your opportunity to engage and connect with veterans and community members while generating community impact in a real and tangible way. Led by veteran volunteer platoon leaders, each platoon works with dedicated community partners and volunteers to provide the manpower and support that they need to help them do their work more effectively.

We currently have service platoons in more than 40+ cities across the country that are having events at least once a month. Everyone is invited to serve, regardless of veteran status: a service platoon is for you if you have a passion for service.
