SURFRIDER FOUNDATION'S BEACH CLEANUP PROGRAM
Through our beach cleanup program, we help volunteers understand the impacts of our throwaway society and a convenience culture built on single-use plastics. An estimated 11 million metric tons of plastic enter the ocean each year, the equivalent of one garbage truck load per minute. While we cannot clean ourselves out of the plastic pollution pandemic, our beach cleanups serve to raise awareness and inspire individuals to adopt upstream solutions to stop plastic waste at the source, primarily through everyday consumer choices and legislative advocacy.

A few other parking options exist for access to the Santa Monica Pier and nearby Santa Monica Beach:

The Pier Deck Parking Lot: limited parking is available seasonally during select days and times.

Civic Center Garage: This Santa Monica parking garage is just off the 10 West freeway exit, on 4th and Olympic, across from City Hall.

Santa Monica has on-street parking meters throughout the city, all of which accept payment via coins or credit cards.

The Metro E Line: if you want a convenient way to access the Pier, try parking at one of the Metro parking garages at an Expo stop in Santa Monica, and hopping on the train. Parking starts at $3, and since there are no overnight penalties, they are a great place to find overnight parking in Santa Monica.

Who We Are

The Mission Continues is a national non-profit that empowers veterans to continue serving in our nation’s under-resourced communities, giving veterans the opportunity to keep serving even after the uniform comes off, right here at home. Our programs deploy veterans and volunteers to work alongside nonprofit partners and community leaders to improve educational resources, tackle food insecurity, foster neighborhood identity, and more.

Who should volunteer?

Our service projects are for all veterans with a desire to continue their service and for all non-veterans that want to be part of a nationwide movement to transform communities. Please note, age and accessibility accommodations can be made at any project. There is room for everyone to make an impact.

What is a Service Platoon?

Service Platoons are your opportunity to engage and connect with veterans and community members while generating community impact in a real and tangible way. Led by veteran volunteer platoon leaders, each platoon works with dedicated community partners and volunteers to provide the manpower and support that they need to help them do their work more effectively.

We currently have service platoons in more than 40+ cities across the country that are having events at least once a month. Everyone is invited to serve, regardless of veteran status: a service platoon is for you if you have a passion for service.
