Event overview

I only registered us for 6, but I can submit a request for additional members if slots are still available. Reach out to me if the event if books so I can make arrangements to include you. This is not the Flag Placement Detail. You may need to provide instructions to flag placement detail. Volunteers must be able to have kindness towards other but also be willing/able to enforce rules, provide guidance, and instructions to others as needed. For this reason, very mature teens may participate, but this assignment is not appropriate for children. The terrain is grassy field with various elevations. You may need to step up/down from curb. Groups will move primarily as a unit in line with each other, but there may be some deviation if you are unable to walk fast or for long distances. As headstone Usher, you will be responsible for watching Flag Placement volunteers and verifying that all headstones receive a flag. You may be asked to assist in flag placement. Keep in mind you will be outside for the entire shift, rain or shine. Dress for weather. Cemetery Rules: Standing the entire time. Wear comfortable clothes. No running, leaning/sitting/resting/on headstones or monuments. Don't pick up flowers or flags, coins, or other items placed on headstones. No advertisement of any kind. Do not disrupt visitors at graves. You can ask to place flag for them. If they deny, kindly give them a flag so they can place it themselves. No littering.

Who We Are

The Mission Continues is a national non-profit that empowers veterans to continue serving in our nation’s under-resourced communities, giving veterans the opportunity to keep serving even after the uniform comes off, right here at home. Our programs deploy veterans and volunteers to work alongside nonprofit partners and community leaders to improve educational resources, tackle food insecurity, foster neighborhood identity, and more.

Who should volunteer?

Our service projects are for all veterans with a desire to continue their service and for all non-veterans that want to be part of a nationwide movement to transform communities. Please note, age and accessibility accommodations can be made at any project. There is room for everyone to make an impact.

What is a Service Platoon?

Service Platoons are your opportunity to engage and connect with veterans and community members while generating community impact in a real and tangible way. Led by veteran volunteer platoon leaders, each platoon works with dedicated community partners and volunteers to provide the manpower and support that they need to help them do their work more effectively.

We currently have service platoons in more than 40+ cities across the country that are having events at least once a month. Everyone is invited to serve, regardless of veteran status: a service platoon is for you if you have a passion for service.
