Operation: ALMOST HOME

August 16, 2025

07:45 AM - 12:00 PM MST

Phoenix Platoon

Event overview

Thanks to the hard work and dedication of our TMC-PHX Platoon, as well as our community partners, we have made some huge strides in getting US Vets on schedule to open later this year due to the success to Operation: OPEN DOORS and Operation: OPEN DOORS (part deux). Now we only have to close out a few more things to make the site inspections ready and then we can focus on making the site more welcoming to the veterans and create an atmosphere that feels like home. Our unhoused veterans deserve to live with dignity, respect, and be given access to opportunities; US Vets will be that place in Phoenix. Our scope of work includes... The room safe project Closet door project Emergency numbers posters Cleaning, cleaning, and some more cleaning Put up room number signs Distribute Intake bags to the rooms (double check towels) Do closet inventory/room inventory (lock closets) Evaluate which rooms are COMPLETED and lock them and label as done That is where you come in!!! We appreciate all of our volunteers who have already become so excited about this amazing place and the work US Vets does! We also appreciate everyone being patient and understanding as we navigate these uncharted waters of helping an organization and site so large get their site ready for the rigorous inspections and checklists, they must adhere to in order to open their doors. THANK YOU EVERYONE!!!!

Who We Are

The Mission Continues is a national non-profit that empowers veterans to continue serving in our nation’s under-resourced communities, giving veterans the opportunity to keep serving even after the uniform comes off, right here at home. Our programs deploy veterans and volunteers to work alongside nonprofit partners and community leaders to improve educational resources, tackle food insecurity, foster neighborhood identity, and more.

Who should volunteer?

Our service projects are for all veterans with a desire to continue their service and for all non-veterans that want to be part of a nationwide movement to transform communities. Please note, age and accessibility accommodations can be made at any project. There is room for everyone to make an impact.

What is a Service Platoon?

Service Platoons are your opportunity to engage and connect with veterans and community members while generating community impact in a real and tangible way. Led by veteran volunteer platoon leaders, each platoon works with dedicated community partners and volunteers to provide the manpower and support that they need to help them do their work more effectively.

We currently have service platoons in more than 40+ cities across the country that are having events at least once a month. Everyone is invited to serve, regardless of veteran status: a service platoon is for you if you have a passion for service.
