***Please note: if you are registering after 3/15/24 I cannot guarantee there will be a lunch for you.*** As part of the #HerMission initiative, The Mission Continues advocates for cultural transformation (both within the Veteran community and in the general public) by recognizing the service and contributions of women who have served in the military. Many women do not self-identify as Veterans and have a lower rate of participation in Veteran events and organizations. In order to reach more women and discover critical potential needs, such as social isolation, The Mission Continues' Phoenix Service Platoon has created a special community service event specifically for women and women Veterans in the local area! On Saturday, March 23rd, the Phoenix Service Platoon will be partnering with The Kyrene School District in order to give local Women Veterans the opportunity to volunteer, lead and continue to serve their community. We will be leading a campus beautification project at Nevitt Elementary School helping with playground maintenance, leaf raking/bagging, weed pulling, landscape trimming, trash pickup & more! Additionally, The Phoenix Service Platoon will be elevating the often-untold stories of the incredible Women Veterans in attendance with a focus on creating and fostering bonds and long-lasting social support with local Veterans and community members. All Women Veterans will be receiving a journal, guidance on how to start the process of having their service stories registered with the Military Women’s Memorial, & discussion on the importance of highlighting their contributions, accomplishments, & sacrifice in service to America for generations to come. Report for duty in your community with The Phoenix Platoon on Saturday, March 23rd to celebrate the contributions of local Women Veterans! In order to minimize possible barriers that might prevent local Women Veterans from participating, this will be a child-friendly project. Water and Lunch will be provided as will sunscreen and work gloves. Please indicate during your registration if you will be bringing youth.
