Paul Quinn College (PQC) is an HBCU located in a food desert in Southern Dallas. To address the needs of surrounding under-resourced communities, PQC converted its football field into the “We Over Me” Farm that grows more than 20,000 pounds of organic vegetables per year. PQC’s football field farm also serves students as part of the nation’s first urban work college experience where students complete work hours as payment for tuition and services from the college. PQC aims to graduate its students debt free. The Mission Continues has teamed up with PQC for this year’s Earth Day Special Project where veterans and community partners will converge on PQC’s campus to implement a network of composting stations that will boost food production at the farm by 40% year over year. The composting stations will convert leaves from the community into rich compost for distribution around the farm. Join TMC and PQC for Earth Day as we blitz to tackle food insecurity. Lunch, tools, and materials will be provided.
