#HerMission at the Garden of Tomorrow (Women Only Project)

May 14, 2022

07:45 AM - 11:00 AM MST

Phoenix Platoon

Event overview

As part of the #HerMission initiative, The Mission Continues advocates for cultural transformation (both within the Veteran community and in the general public) by recognizing the service and contributions of women who have served in the military.

Many women do not self-identify as Veterans and have a lower rate of participation in Veteran events and organizations. In order to reach more women and discover critical potential needs, such as social isolation and food insecurity, The Mission Continues' Phoenix Service Platoon has created a special community service event specifically for women and women Veterans in the local area!

On Saturday, May 14th, the Phoenix Service Platoon will be partnering with The Garden of Tomorrow in order to give local Women Veterans the opportunity to volunteer, lead and continue to serve their community. Additionally, The Phoenix Service Platoon will be elevating the often-untold stories of the incredible Women Veterans in attendance with a focus on creating and fostering bonds and long-lasting social support with local Veterans and community members. Each participant will be receiving a gardening kit, including pots, tools, seeds, and education on the therapeutic and health benefits of gardening and growing your own food.

Report for duty in your community with The Phoenix Platoon on Saturday, May 14th to celebrate the contributions of local Women Veterans! In order to minimize possible barriers that might prevent local Women Veterans from participating, this will be a child-friendly project.

Reminder: This is a Women Only Project

PLEASE NOTE: This is a regular gardening day so the garden will be open to Tiger Mountain Staff, community members, and other groups, some of whom will be male. To join the platoon please use this link: https://www.missioncontinues.org/service-platoon/Phoenix/

Who We Are

The Mission Continues is a national non-profit that empowers veterans to continue serving in our nation’s under-resourced communities, giving veterans the opportunity to keep serving even after the uniform comes off, right here at home. Our programs deploy veterans and volunteers to work alongside nonprofit partners and community leaders to improve educational resources, tackle food insecurity, foster neighborhood identity, and more.

Who should volunteer?

Our service projects are for all veterans with a desire to continue their service and for all non-veterans that want to be part of a nationwide movement to transform communities. Please note, age and accessibility accommodations can be made at any project. There is room for everyone to make an impact.

What is a Service Platoon?

Service Platoons are your opportunity to engage and connect with veterans and community members while generating community impact in a real and tangible way. Led by veteran volunteer platoon leaders, each platoon works with dedicated community partners and volunteers to provide the manpower and support that they need to help them do their work more effectively.

We currently have service platoons in more than 40+ cities across the country that are having events at least once a month. Everyone is invited to serve, regardless of veteran status: a service platoon is for you if you have a passion for service.
