Donut Boating Social on Tempe Town Lake

June 04, 2023

08:45 AM - 11:00 AM MST

Phoenix Platoon

Event overview

Join your fellow platoon members for free donut boating and light breakfast at Tempe Town Lake. We will meet on the east side of the Tempe Beach Park parking lot. NOTE: 72 W. Rio Salado is Tempe Boat Rental; 250 W. Rio Salado Parkway is the Tempe Beach Park Surface Parking Lot.

From 0845-0945, we will have a light breakfast (muffins, bagels, fruit)

At 0945, we will transition to the boat house, where we will cruise around Tempe Town Lake from 1000-1100, getting to know one another, basking in the beautiful Arizona weather, and marveling at the Tempe skyline.

The Donut Boats hold up to 10 people. A round table in the middle is great for sharing food and beverages, and the circular seating makes for easy conversations. The boats are covered to protect against the sun. We will be on the water for one hour. Please, no children under the age of 12.

No pets please. Boats have a Bluetooth speaker. There is no swimming, no alcohol, no BBQs.

The platoon will provide light snacks, water, and sunscreen. Please bring any additional sun protection items you desire.

We are limited to 20 total slots.

Boats do have life vests, but anyone over 14 is not required to wear one.

The boat house has water, soda, candy, and snacks for sale.

While the parking lot and park are handicap accessible, the boats are not equipped to handle wheelchairs. Boarding the boat requires stepping off the concrete "docK' onto the boat.

Who We Are

The Mission Continues is a national non-profit that empowers veterans to continue serving in our nation’s under-resourced communities, giving veterans the opportunity to keep serving even after the uniform comes off, right here at home. Our programs deploy veterans and volunteers to work alongside nonprofit partners and community leaders to improve educational resources, tackle food insecurity, foster neighborhood identity, and more.

Who should volunteer?

Our service projects are for all veterans with a desire to continue their service and for all non-veterans that want to be part of a nationwide movement to transform communities. Please note, age and accessibility accommodations can be made at any project. There is room for everyone to make an impact.

What is a Service Platoon?

Service Platoons are your opportunity to engage and connect with veterans and community members while generating community impact in a real and tangible way. Led by veteran volunteer platoon leaders, each platoon works with dedicated community partners and volunteers to provide the manpower and support that they need to help them do their work more effectively.

We currently have service platoons in more than 40+ cities across the country that are having events at least once a month. Everyone is invited to serve, regardless of veteran status: a service platoon is for you if you have a passion for service.
