Event overview

In this hands-on opportunity in ACFB’s Product Rescue Center(PRC), groups and individual volunteers come together to inspect, sort, and pack quality grocery donations for distribution to over 600 non-profit agencies in the Metro Atlanta and North Georgia area. Shifts are 2.5 to 3 hours long. This project is not appropriate for those who cannot do moderate lifting (5-40 lbs) or stand for prolonged periods. This project may require sorting of frozen or refrigerated items such as meats and dairy products. Here are instructions on how to register for the event on-line. Each participant must: Go to https://www.cervistech.com/acts/console.php?console_id=0085&console_type=event&ht=1&res_code=TheMissionContinues Click 'Register for an Event'. Type email address and first name. CERVIS will tell if you have a profile created or if you don't have a profile created. If you don't have a profile created, then do so. If you do have a profile, type in your password. If you have forgotten your password, click the 'reset password' link colored in blue to create new permanent password. Select volunteer from Volunteer Name picklist, bullet the shift you would like to volunteer for, and click 'Register for selected event'. You are now registered. An auto-generated email will be sent. Click the liability waiver link, print, execute, and bring with you when you arrive to volunteer. Please note: each participant must be registered NO LATER THAN 10 days prior to your event. This is very important to get everyone pre-registered. We want to thank you again for joining us in our efforts to fight hunger. The Atlanta Community Food Bank relies on more than 15,000 volunteers every year in various capacities, and our work would not be possible without our dedicated volunteers. We look forward to seeing you at the Produce Rescue Center soon. All volunteers must be eight years of age or older. Volunteers Age 8 to 11: For the safety of our young volunteers, ACFB requires two adult volunteers to accompany any group of 10 youth volunteers. For every five volunteers age 8 to 11 exceeding 10, one additional adult volunteer is required. All adult chaperones will be required to sign in upon arrival and accept responsibility for the safety for the youth volunteers present. Volunteers Age 12 to 17: For the safety of our young volunteers, ACFB requires two adult volunteers to accompany any group of 10 youth volunteers. Who We Are

The Mission Continues is a national non-profit that empowers veterans to continue serving in our nation’s under-resourced communities, giving veterans the opportunity to keep serving even after the uniform comes off, right here at home. Our programs deploy veterans and volunteers to work alongside nonprofit partners and community leaders to improve educational resources, tackle food insecurity, foster neighborhood identity, and more.

Who should volunteer?

Our service projects are for all veterans with a desire to continue their service and for all non-veterans that want to be part of a nationwide movement to transform communities. Please note, age and accessibility accommodations can be made at any project. There is room for everyone to make an impact.

What is a Service Platoon?

Service Platoons are your opportunity to engage and connect with veterans and community members while generating community impact in a real and tangible way. Led by veteran volunteer platoon leaders, each platoon works with dedicated community partners and volunteers to provide the manpower and support that they need to help them do their work more effectively.

We currently have service platoons in more than 40+ cities across the country that are having events at least once a month. Everyone is invited to serve, regardless of veteran status: a service platoon is for you if you have a passion for service.
