Located in New York City, East Harlem is a historic neighborhood that has suffered from many social issues such as the highest jobless rate in New York City, teenage pregnancy, AIDS, drug abuse, and homelessness. In addition to those issues, East Harlem has the second highest concentration of public housing in the United States, lack of access to fresh food, and an asthma rate five times the national average.
To help address some of the issues East Harlem is facing, The Mission Continues Harlem Platoon is working with Harlem Grown, Union Settlement, and P.S. 50 to make a difference in Harlem.
