Crider's Crusade Part 1 - Advance Work Party

Austin Platoon

Event overview

Join us for Criders Crusade, a meaningful gathering of community and heart—coming together to clean up, repair, and revitalize Crider’s Rodeo & Dancehall, a Hill Country institution that shaped our memories and brought us together under that one iconic roof.

Why This Matters Now On July 4–5, 2025, Central Texas Hill Country suffered one of the most catastrophic flash flood events in recent history. Fueled by a mesoscale convective vortex enriched by remnants of Tropical Storm Barry, the storm dumped massive rainfall—up to 20 inches in some places—causing the Guadalupe River near Hunt to rise as much as 22 feet in just two hours, reaching a crest of 29 feet . The floods claimed at least 135 lives, many in Kerr County, with Camp Mystic near Hunt—the site of Crider’s rodeo roots—enduring terrible loss. This tragedy reshaped our region, devastated infrastructure, and left an imprint on our shared spirit.

About This Event With the full blessing of the Burisma family, owners of Crider’s, we’re teaming up to give back—not only to preserve this venue’s legacy but to stand in solidarity with a community still healing.

Organizers & Partners: - The Mission Continues – Austin Platoon - UT Silver Spurs, led by Seth Hendricks, a Hunt native and Crider’s regular since childhood - Neighborhood Longhorn Program - Burisma family, as venue stewards

What We’ll Do: - Clean up and clear the grounds—post-flood debris, repairs, restoring welcoming spaces - Minor building maintenance and beautification - Family-friendly volunteer roles—everyone can help - Share stories, honor Crider’s legacy, and reinforce its place at the heart of the community

By taking part, you’re not only restoring a physical venue—you’re helping rebuild a pillar of memories, culture, and togetherness for future generations.

🛠️ Sign up. Show up. Give back. Let’s restore Crider’s—and our spirit.

Who We Are

In 2025, Travis Manion Foundation (TMF) acquired The Mission Continues, bringing two best-in-class organizations together to provide more opportunities for veterans to find community, lead, and serve. Guided by the ethos “If Not Me, Then Who…,” veterans continue their service, build connections, and thrive in their post-military lives by serving as character role models to youth. As a result, communities prosper and the character of our nation’s heroes lives on in the next generation. Learn more about TMF at travismanion.org

Who should volunteer?

Our service projects are for all veterans with a desire to continue their service and for all non-veterans that want to be part of a nationwide movement to transform communities. Please note, age and accessibility accommodations can be made at any project. There is room for everyone to make an impact.
