10:00 AM - 02:00 PM CDT

Chicago Platoon

Event overview

Bynum Island is a low ropes action/training course that serves schools and community groups throughout the city of Chicago. The course engages the physical, cognitive, and social resources of each participant and challenges them to break away from standard routines and problem solving and require cooperation, goal-setting, creativity, risk-taking, teamwork, communication, accountability, leadership. It also serves as a host to family camping and fishing programs through the Chicago Public Parks. On July 18th, The Mission Continues worked to repair/replace many of the challenges, create new challenges, and add to the capacity of the outdoors programs by building fishing boardwalks, benches, picnic tables, and other public resources. Our Mission on October 10th will be to complete the final tasks to make the obstical course operational.

Who We Are

In 2025, Travis Manion Foundation (TMF) acquired The Mission Continues, bringing two best-in-class organizations together to provide more opportunities for veterans to find community, lead, and serve. Guided by the ethos “If Not Me, Then Who…,” veterans continue their service, build connections, and thrive in their post-military lives by serving as character role models to youth. As a result, communities prosper and the character of our nation’s heroes lives on in the next generation. Learn more about TMF at travismanion.org

Who should volunteer?

Our service projects are for all veterans with a desire to continue their service and for all non-veterans that want to be part of a nationwide movement to transform communities. Please note, age and accessibility accommodations can be made at any project. There is room for everyone to make an impact.
