Service Project

Tanner Community Center Beautification Project

September 12, 2026

09:00 AM - 01:00 PM EDT

Washington, DC Platoon

Event overview

Join Travis Manion Foundation's National Capital Region Service Platoon as we work to get the Tanner Community Resource Center ready for a ceremony to welcome the remains of Corporal Larmon Brown, of Washington DC, 1891 - December 11, 1917. In preparation for the ceremony, this project will largely involve clearing brush and chipping woods and removing small saplings around the cemetery that sits behind the community center. We will also be painting the parking lot, and conducting other odd jobs to support the Tanner Community Center as they prepare for the ceremony to welcome CPL Brown home to rest.

Who We Are

In 2025, Travis Manion Foundation (TMF) acquired The Mission Continues, bringing two best-in-class organizations together to provide more opportunities for veterans to find community, lead, and serve. Guided by the ethos “If Not Me, Then Who…,” veterans continue their service, build connections, and thrive in their post-military lives by serving as character role models to youth. As a result, communities prosper and the character of our nation’s heroes lives on in the next generation. Learn more about TMF at travismanion.org

Who should volunteer?

Our service projects are for all veterans with a desire to continue their service and for all non-veterans that want to be part of a nationwide movement to transform communities. Please note, age and accessibility accommodations can be made at any project. There is room for everyone to make an impact.
