New York City Platoon

Event overview

Every January, thousands of volunteers across the five boroughs participate in NYC’s annual Homeless Outreach Population Estimate (HOPE). Over a single night, volunteers canvass streets, subway stations, parks, and other public spaces across the city to identify individuals living unsheltered. Location: Manhattan, TBD via Email Outreach to Registered Participants by Monday, January 26th 2026. The Homeless Outreach Population Estimate or HOPE is an Annual Survey that estimates the number of people experiencing Unsheltered Homelessness in New York City. The HOPE Count provides critical data that helps shape how the City directs resources to address Homelessness. *HOPE Facts: -21 years of HOPE. -Since its inception, HOPE has used a consistent survey methodology that is considered a gold standard for national point-in-time surveys on unsheltered homelessness. -About 1,600 areas canvassed across all Five Boroughs in 2025. -1,200+ Volunteers engaged in 2025. Hey TMC NYC, as Community Members & Veterans, we're partnering with Fiveboro Veterans on this Civic Action for their Veterans Night Patrol Initiative. As your Safety is Our Utmost Priority, we'll be Escorted by NYPD, if necessary, throughout the Overnight in Search of Homeless Individuals & Veterans. We're to Assist in Surveying on Directing them to Temporary Housing & Social Services. Warm Beverages, Hand Warmers and a Long Sleeve NYC HOPE 2026 Shirt will be made available for Participants. Let's help out those in need of Assistance during this COLD BLUE Emergency Situation. Charlie Mike!

Who We Are

In 2025, Travis Manion Foundation (TMF) acquired The Mission Continues, bringing two best-in-class organizations together to provide more opportunities for veterans to find community, lead, and serve. Guided by the ethos “If Not Me, Then Who…,” veterans continue their service, build connections, and thrive in their post-military lives by serving as character role models to youth. As a result, communities prosper and the character of our nation’s heroes lives on in the next generation. Learn more about TMF at travismanion.org

Who should volunteer?

Our service projects are for all veterans with a desire to continue their service and for all non-veterans that want to be part of a nationwide movement to transform communities. Please note, age and accessibility accommodations can be made at any project. There is room for everyone to make an impact.
