MLK Day of Service – TMF Columbus Platoon

Serve with Purpose: MLK Day of Service at Shady Lane Elementary

Join the Travis Manion Foundation Columbus, Ohio Service Platoon on January 17th as we come together to honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. through meaningful community service. In the spirit of Dr. King’s call to action, we’re turning words into impact—one act of service at a time.

Our mission for the day is to support Shady Lane Elementary School by creating a more organized, welcoming, and functional space for students and staff. Whether you love organizing, building, or just lending a helping hand, there’s a role for everyone.

What We’ll Be Doing

  • Sorting and organizing donated clothing into labeled bins
  • Assembling storage racks and coat racks for student use
  • Cleaning and organizing the school’s nurse’s office

This project is about more than tidying up—it’s about ensuring students have access to the resources they need in a space that shows care, dignity, and respect.

Why It Matters

Dr. King reminded us that “everybody can be great, because everybody can serve.” By volunteering your time and energy, you’re helping build stronger communities and living out that message in a real, tangible way.

Come ready to work, connect, and make a difference. Together, we’ll honor Dr. King’s legacy through service and leave Shady Lane Elementary a little brighter than we found it.

We can’t wait to serve alongside you.

Who We Are

In 2025, Travis Manion Foundation (TMF) acquired The Mission Continues, bringing two best-in-class organizations together to provide more opportunities for veterans to find community, lead, and serve. Guided by the ethos “If Not Me, Then Who…,” veterans continue their service, build connections, and thrive in their post-military lives by serving as character role models to youth. As a result, communities prosper and the character of our nation’s heroes lives on in the next generation. Learn more about TMF at travismanion.org

Who should volunteer?

Our service projects are for all veterans with a desire to continue their service and for all non-veterans that want to be part of a nationwide movement to transform communities. Please note, age and accessibility accommodations can be made at any project. There is room for everyone to make an impact.
