Platoon of the Year Family Fun Beach Day

April 15, 2017

11:00 AM - 04:00 PM EDT

Miami Platoon

Event overview

We will be holding a beach family fun day to celebrate winning The Mission Continues Platoon of the Year in 2016. Please bring your family along as this will be a great day to relax and spend time together. Also we will have our new Platoon Leader at the event and members that have not yet met him will be able to do so. We would love to share the day with you all by having a Potluck meal. We are asking that everyone bring either their favorite family dish or recipe. We would rather not spend time cooking and grills are very limited so food should be prepared ahead of time. We will need drinks and ice as well as paper products. Please register so we have an idea of how many people to expect. Also please email us to let us know what you plan to bring so we make sure that we cover all of our bases. Lets make this a great celebration of all of our hard work last year as we continue to work diligently to do the same this year. Location: Virginia Key Beach- NORTH POINT PARK. Please see the links below about the park and directions to the the beach we will be gathered at. http://vkoc.jimdo.com/about-us/virginia-key-beach-north-point-park/ http://vkoc.jimdo.com/directions/ There are several beaches on Virginia Key so please make sure you follow all directions and signs for NORTH POINT PARK. You will enter the park at Arthur Lamb Jr Road. This is the location of the mountain biking trails. You will enter the park and tell them you are attending a veteran event for The Mission Continues and show proper military/veteran ID. You will follow the road until it forks, go to the right until it forks again and go right once more and will then arrive at the location. This is the address for the outdoor center located nearby for those who prefer a physical address. 3801 Rickenbacker Causeway Miami, Florida 33149 There are bike trails, beach area, volleyball and paddle board and kayak rentals onsite. The Outdoor Center will give veterans a 10% discount on rentals with valid ID. We will set up in the shaded area where picnic tables are located however they are first come first serve at the park. We look forward to seeing you all! The more the merrier. Who We Are

The Mission Continues is a national non-profit that empowers veterans to continue serving in our nation’s under-resourced communities, giving veterans the opportunity to keep serving even after the uniform comes off, right here at home. Our programs deploy veterans and volunteers to work alongside nonprofit partners and community leaders to improve educational resources, tackle food insecurity, foster neighborhood identity, and more.

Who should volunteer?

Our service projects are for all veterans with a desire to continue their service and for all non-veterans that want to be part of a nationwide movement to transform communities. Please note, age and accessibility accommodations can be made at any project. There is room for everyone to make an impact.

What is a Service Platoon?

Service Platoons are your opportunity to engage and connect with veterans and community members while generating community impact in a real and tangible way. Led by veteran volunteer platoon leaders, each platoon works with dedicated community partners and volunteers to provide the manpower and support that they need to help them do their work more effectively.

We currently have service platoons in more than 40+ cities across the country that are having events at least once a month. Everyone is invited to serve, regardless of veteran status: a service platoon is for you if you have a passion for service.
