The Chicago Cares Serve-a-thon

Chicago Platoon

Event overview

On June 24, 5,000 Chicagoans will volunteer side by side at the Chicago Cares Serve-a-thon, the city's largest day of service. Why volunteer? Because when we meet our neighbors, work side by side, and engage across our differences, we see that more unites us than divides us. We're inspired to see that we can help tackle the pressing challenges that face our city, because while we're many communities, we're also one Chicago. Chicago 3rd will participate this year by volunteering to be Serv-a-thon Volunteer Leaders! Serve-a-thon Volunteer Leaders go the extra mile to make sure your project runs smoothly, the work is complete, and the volunteers are happy. It’s rewarding and fun! Serve-a-thon Volunteer Leaders make the biggest impact, managing your project and multiple volunteers, so you’ll enjoy great satisfaction and special benefits. What does it take? Commitment, reliability, and a good attitude Serve-a-thon Volunteer Leaders take on a project and direct volunteers through project completion. You’ll be providing instruction and may be called upon to problem-solve. You must be at least 21 years old on June 24, 2017. A little extra time (it’s totally worth it – promise!) You’ll receive advance training and you’ll arrive earlier and stay a little later than the volunteers to make sure everything’s prepped and finished strong. Project instructions and supplies will be provided. This is a time sensitive event, so please be sure to register by June 19. For those who wish to participate, please register through TMC as well as the Chicago Cares Serv-a-thon site here . Enter "TMC" when asked how you found out about Serve-a-thon. It will ensure we stay on the same site. Also, be sure to give us dates and times of availability for the advanced training here .

Who We Are

In 2025, Travis Manion Foundation (TMF) acquired The Mission Continues, bringing two best-in-class organizations together to provide more opportunities for veterans to find community, lead, and serve. Guided by the ethos “If Not Me, Then Who…,” veterans continue their service, build connections, and thrive in their post-military lives by serving as character role models to youth. As a result, communities prosper and the character of our nation’s heroes lives on in the next generation. Learn more about TMF at travismanion.org

Who should volunteer?

Our service projects are for all veterans with a desire to continue their service and for all non-veterans that want to be part of a nationwide movement to transform communities. Please note, age and accessibility accommodations can be made at any project. There is room for everyone to make an impact.
