Sleeves Up Veteran Meet Up

July 17, 2019

06:00 PM - 08:00 PM EDT

Detroit Platoon

Event overview

Network with fellow veterans while raising awareness for a great cause! Join us and members of The Mission Continues, Team Rubicon, Team Red, White, and Blue, and the metro Detroit Chapter of Veteran Beer Club, to learn about how you can save a life by supporting the American Red Cross! This joint social will also provide an opportunity for all members to connect with other veterans during the midpoint of our virtual blood drive competition! The idea behind VBC is simple: Veterans helping Veterans, with transitioning, community service, and restoring camaraderie! The Metro Detroit chapter of Veteran Beer Club is hosting a summer networking social to highlight the missions of three great veteran organizations that provide opportunities for veterans to go out, get active, and get involved in the community in meaningful ways. Sleeves up for the American Red Cross! Chapters of The Mission Continues, Team Rubicon, and Team Red, White, and Blue in Detroit have kicked off #GiveAsOne, a virtual blood drive competition to help raise awareness and donations for the global blood shortage. This friendly competition between the three veteran organizations will help support the Red Cross in building up its stores of A, B, and O blood types, which are at a critical low. The great thing about this virtual drive is that donors can search a time and location that best fits their schedule during the 60-day campaign period. The sign up and search process is super easy! Pledge for your organization of choice and you will be connected to an easy search platform to find the time and location of a blood drive in your area. Join our Facebook group to pledge today! If nothing else, please SHARE with your network. ANYONE can give ANYWHERE for this campaign--there is no limit on location or geography--so please help us spread the word. The campaign will run until August 13th, so pledge today! This is a 21-and-up event.

Who We Are

The Mission Continues is a national non-profit that empowers veterans to continue serving in our nation’s under-resourced communities, giving veterans the opportunity to keep serving even after the uniform comes off, right here at home. Our programs deploy veterans and volunteers to work alongside nonprofit partners and community leaders to improve educational resources, tackle food insecurity, foster neighborhood identity, and more.

Who should volunteer?

Our service projects are for all veterans with a desire to continue their service and for all non-veterans that want to be part of a nationwide movement to transform communities. Please note, age and accessibility accommodations can be made at any project. There is room for everyone to make an impact.

What is a Service Platoon?

Service Platoons are your opportunity to engage and connect with veterans and community members while generating community impact in a real and tangible way. Led by veteran volunteer platoon leaders, each platoon works with dedicated community partners and volunteers to provide the manpower and support that they need to help them do their work more effectively.

We currently have service platoons in more than 40+ cities across the country that are having events at least once a month. Everyone is invited to serve, regardless of veteran status: a service platoon is for you if you have a passion for service.
