Earth Day Work Party on the Confluence Land Bridge

April 21, 2018

09:00 AM - 12:00 PM PDT

Portland Platoon

Event overview

Join The Portland 1st Platoon, Confluence, The City of Vancouver, Fort Vancouver National Historic Site and friends in tending to the earthen bridge that helps connect us to this special place. The Confluence Land Bridge: The Land Bridge is an earth-covered pedestrian bridge, arching over Hwy 14, reconnecting historic Fort Vancouver with the Columbia River. European and Native American cultures still converge at this Columbia River site, where the Hudson's Bay Company stood as the first European trading post in the Pacific Northwest. Learn about the site's indigenous plants as you walk along the bridge and enjoy Native American artist Lillian Pitt’s works that highlight the deep, significant contributions indigenous people make to this place. The Land Bridge was designed by internationally recognized architect Johnpaul Jones of Jones & Jones. It was dedicated in 2008. Work Party Details: When: Saturday, April 21, 9 am - 12 pm Where: Old Apple Tree Park/ the south side of the Land Bridge and HWY 14 What: Volunteers will help shovel, haul and spread mulch, pick up trash and weed. If the weather isn’t to cold we can scrub art and walls clean for spring. Thanks to the City’s Urban Youth Group for treating us to grilled burgers and Hot Dogs after our work! Necessary tools and supplied will be provided.

Who We Are

In 2025, Travis Manion Foundation (TMF) acquired The Mission Continues, bringing two best-in-class organizations together to provide more opportunities for veterans to find community, lead, and serve. Guided by the ethos “If Not Me, Then Who…,” veterans continue their service, build connections, and thrive in their post-military lives by serving as character role models to youth. As a result, communities prosper and the character of our nation’s heroes lives on in the next generation. Learn more about TMF at travismanion.org

Who should volunteer?

Our service projects are for all veterans with a desire to continue their service and for all non-veterans that want to be part of a nationwide movement to transform communities. Please note, age and accessibility accommodations can be made at any project. There is room for everyone to make an impact.
