MY connection to 9/11
  • I was serving in the military on 9/11

Where were you when you first heard about or saw the 9/11 terrorist attacks?

I was at my civilian job at the Culver Military Academy when one of my co-workers stopped and said, 'hey someone flew a plane in one of the Twin Towers in New York City.' As the morning unfolded, we were glued to the radio we had in the break room to hear about the news of the other twin tower, the Pentagon, and United Flight 93 in Shanksville, PA. During this, my Readiness NCO from my Indiana Army National Guard unit called me at work to tell me that we were on alert and to call my soldiers to have them call into the armory for accountability.

How did the events of that day shape your life and inspire your service to this country?

It motivated me to remember what this Country stands for, and for what the uniform I wore stands for, as well to appreciate the first responders, police, firefighters, and EMT's for what they did, and do, for this nation.

What are you excited to contribute to your community, however you define it, for the next 20 years?

Being a member the Veterans of Foreign Wars, one of our main missions is service to the Community. It is my honor whenever I can to teach and explain to the next generation how service to the community, state, and nation in whatever capacity, makes a stronger united country; the United States of America.
