MY connection to 9/11

  • I joined the military after 9/11

Where were you when you first heard about or saw the 9/11 terrorist attacks?

I was a sophomore in high school and an announcement came over the loud speaker that directed our teachers to turn on the TVs. What I observed will stick with me forever.

How did the events of that day shape your life and inspire your service to this country?

From that moment, I knew that serving wasn't just a choice, it was the only option. Even Pearl Harbor didn't make it to the main land. Something had to be done. As we all watched, our teacher muted the TV and said "You all know what this means right? We're at war." That's when the world didn't feel so safe.

What are you excited to contribute to your community, however you define it, for the next 20 years?

Spreading love and acceptance, for all. There will always be bad people in the world, but use each day to try and make a difference.
