MY connection to 9/11

  • I was serving in the military on 9/11

Where were you when you first heard about or saw the 9/11 terrorist attacks?

I was stationed on USCGC MONHEGAN (WPB 1305) out of Key West, FL. I just went and picked up fresh steaks to cook for lunch for the crew. While getting in my truck, I caught the tale end of a plane crash over the radio. I just figured it was another incident that occurred regularly in South Florida with airlines.

How did the events of that day shape your life and inspire your service to this country?

From that day forward, I was going to get to the Middle East, US Coast Guard allowed, and contribute my efforts for our cause. I later served in Iraq with the USCGC WRANGELL (WPB 1332) from DEC 2003-DEC 2004, in support of OIF, and under some of the finest men and women ever to serve with.

What are you excited to contribute to your community, however you define it, for the next 20 years?

Still to remember!!! Seems today we are in a short moment, I want us to rally together and support always!!!
