MY connection to 9/11
  • I was serving in the military on 9/11

  • I joined the military after 9/11

  • I had a family member serving in the military on 9/11

  • I had a family member join the military after 9/11

Where were you when you first heard about or saw the 9/11 terrorist attacks?

I was holding my daughter, laying in a chair. We lived on a rural road and didn't have any internet or tv service. My father in law called me and told me I needed to get to his house to see the news. I ended up holding my daughter's on a chair all day while events unfolded.

How did the events of that day shape your life and inspire your service to this country?

At the time I was in the Oklahoma National Guard. As soon as I was aware of the possibilities, I called my unit to check in and volunteer to go back to active duty if I was needed anywhere.

What are you excited to contribute to your community, however you define it, for the next 20 years?

I am raising four sons with my wife. My duty as I see it now is to teach them history, and what it means to take care of each other. The importance of being a family.
