MY connection to 9/11

  • I was serving in the military on 9/11

Where were you when you first heard about or saw the 9/11 terrorist attacks?

I was looking at a paving project behind the base clinic when I received a call on my radio to return to the Operations Center.

How did the events of that day shape your life and inspire your service to this country?

Both my husband and I were on the bubble to deploy. We had two small children, so my retired parents moved into the house with us. My husband ended up deploying for almost 8 months. I stayed at the base working incredibly long days fortifying the base and supporting the family members of the deployed airmen. This time really solidified our determination to both serve out 20 years in the service.

What are you excited to contribute to your community, however you define it, for the next 20 years?

Commitment to community service and leadership experience learned in the military.
