I was in 10th grade and the bell rung to go from second period to third period. Upon arriving to class, in much the same way others of my generation recall, the television was on and displaying an unimaginable sight. Seemed like something out of a movie. Minutes later a second tragedy ensued yet again. At the time it was, and remains, difficult to envelop the mind around an act so malicious. Despite the devastation these attacks caused to numerous individuals, families, and our nation as a whole, it has truly brought us closer together and enabled a renewed sense of patriotic stance.
It was surreal. No other way to describe it. Serving amid the most memorable wartime era of my generation was an honor. I'm proud to bear the title veteran and wear enjoy and appreciate the recognition. It's in the nature of the veteran to be humble and not flaunt their accomplishments. This is the ethos of honorable service preached and carried out by service members throughout our beautiful nation. It's perfectly okay to be patriotic. In the last 20 years the climate of the nation has fluctuated from a post 9/11 country first mantra to a more recent shunning of our flag, of our colors. I have hope and faith for better tomorrows that our nations flag can be draped across balconies, perched atop buildings and whip strongly in the wind at the peak of flag poles.
The Mission Continues has provided so much joy amid opportunities to give back to my community. The collaborative assistance afforded by TMC has enabled me to easily network with local organizations and build memorable ties from a business standpoint and even build close friendships along the way. The next 20 years will encompass continued volunteering within my community, wherever I am located, to assist wherever and whenever possible. Recruiting friends and veterans alike along the way to accompany my journey will magnify their purpose in addition to my own.
