Where were you when you first heard about or saw the 9/11 terrorist attacks?

I had just returned from basic training (summer split option) to finish my senior year of high school. I was sitting morning literature class waiting for our daily Channel 1 news to come on. Due to error in the station my teacher decided to turn on cable TV to watch morning news. Five mins into the news broadcast, the newscaster broke emerging news about the twin towers. As we watched in awe, my teacher ran to the office and the principal came over the intercom for the entire school to turn on cable news. We spent all day in every class watching the event unfold.

How did the events of that day shape your life and inspire your service to this country?

911 made me more patriotic and willing to fight for American values. I respect the first responders and volunteers who helped save lives. Everyday is a gift and we should treat it as that.

What are you excited to contribute to your community, however you define it, for the next 20 years?

I get excited to help my community whether in a small capacity or large capacity. I want to work on mentoring and fostering the next generation teaching them citizen skills and the importance of the American way of life.
