Where were you when you first heard about or saw the 9/11 terrorist attacks?

I was at Massachusetts Institute of Technology in downtown Boston, MA, working at a construction site when my husband called from the recruiting station and we heard it over the local radio station when the first plane hit Tower 1.

How did the events of that day shape your life and inspire your service to this country?

The events of the day left me very uneasy as my husband at the time was a Navy recruiter and we had to find a way to get him home from work. Although it was a stressful situation, I have never seen so many people in the City of Boston become concerned with everyone around them and our country came together as one that day and after. I was in active reserve on the weekends and it prompted me re-enlist to continue serving my country. The way that the country came together to support our troops, our first responders and each other during a difficult time, it inspired me to continue to serve others.

What are you excited to contribute to your community, however you define it, for the next 20 years?

I am excited to contribute in our communities by helping those who serve as first responders, EMT's, military and veterans in our communities by giving back and letting their voice be heard. They all make up this wonderful country and they are the future.
