Where were you when you first heard about or saw the 9/11 terrorist attacks?

I was teaching middle school the day of the attack. There was a bit of confusion because we went into lock-down. People had escaped the prison near by and so we were already in alert mode when we got word about the terrorist attacks. I had a TV in the classroom so we were able to get connected and find out what had happened. The students were very scared. We were getting calls from parents.

How did the events of that day shape your life and inspire your service to this country?

Being a social studies teacher at the time, I helped to educate my students on what was going on in the Middle East and why we got attacked. Giving my students a clear understanding of our history in the Middle East helped them have a better understanding of what was going on in the world.

What are you excited to contribute to your community, however you define it, for the next 20 years?

I am a social worker and a Veteran Navigator. I get to assist veterans and their family members with ensuring that they are able to overcome any barriers that negatively effect their quality of life. I hope to be in this serving capacity until I retire.
