Making a Difference for Earth Day @ Greenwood Cemetary

April 27, 2024

09:00 AM - 01:00 PM CDT

St. Louis Platoon

Event overview

"Greenwood Cemetery was organized in 1874 to serve the needs of the growing black population of post-civil war St. Louis and St. Louis County. It was the first commercial non-sectarian cemetery for African Americans in the St Louis metropolitan area. More than 50,000 Africans Americans are buried within Greenwood’s 31.85 acres. Greenwood Cemetery was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on February 26, 2004. In 2016, was placed on the St Louis County Historic Landmarks and most recently bestowed the honor of being listed on the National Underground Railway Network to Freedom in September 2023. On January 15, 2024, was given the Rosa L. Park Award for Meritorious Service to the Community." Join TMC St. Louis in honoring and serving Greenwood Cemetary this Earth Day! We will be cleaning gravesites, beautifying, and repairing the original TMC Built Pagoda that was vandalized and burned last year. Start early in service in 2024 and be part of growing the St Louis Platoon for years to come!

Who We Are

In 2025, Travis Manion Foundation (TMF) acquired The Mission Continues, bringing two best-in-class organizations together to provide more opportunities for veterans to find community, lead, and serve. Guided by the ethos “If Not Me, Then Who…,” veterans continue their service, build connections, and thrive in their post-military lives by serving as character role models to youth. As a result, communities prosper and the character of our nation’s heroes lives on in the next generation. Learn more about TMF at travismanion.org

Who should volunteer?

Our service projects are for all veterans with a desire to continue their service and for all non-veterans that want to be part of a nationwide movement to transform communities. Please note, age and accessibility accommodations can be made at any project. There is room for everyone to make an impact.
