Service Project

9/11 Day of Remembrance

September 09, 2023

08:30 AM - 01:30 PM CDT

San Antonio Platoon

Event overview

Twenty-two years ago, our nation experienced the second attack on U.S. soil since Pearl Harbor. It was then that we saw our entire country come together and come as one to defend and lift the land of the free and home of the brave. Ever since these senseless attacks, our country has longed to give back on the anniversary of September 11. This year, the San Antonio platoon has partnered with Young Women's Academy to bring some love and resources to the kids of this community. This year, on Saturday September 9th we will be at Young Women's academy from 8am to 2pm. We will be assisting with classroom upgrades, and some community garden upgrades. The upgrades will include concrete pads being added to the outdoor space. Lattice will be added to the space for shading and plants will be added as well. We will help with adding compost to the space and adding more shade structures to the outdoor learning spaces. We would recommend you wear comfortable clothing that you don't mind getting dirty. Remember some of these activities will be outdoors, so please bring clothing suitable for the hot environment. TMC will provide sunscreen, water, snacks and food at the event. All you need to bring is your positive attitude and your willingness to help. We are excited to see you all as we build up our platoon with more and more volunteers. The more volunteers we have, the more projects we will be able to complete in our day of service. Please feel free to bring your friends, family and tell your neighbors about this fantastic opportunity that's happening here in our community.

Who We Are

In 2025, Travis Manion Foundation (TMF) acquired The Mission Continues, bringing two best-in-class organizations together to provide more opportunities for veterans to find community, lead, and serve. Guided by the ethos “If Not Me, Then Who…,” veterans continue their service, build connections, and thrive in their post-military lives by serving as character role models to youth. As a result, communities prosper and the character of our nation’s heroes lives on in the next generation. Learn more about TMF at travismanion.org

Who should volunteer?

Our service projects are for all veterans with a desire to continue their service and for all non-veterans that want to be part of a nationwide movement to transform communities. Please note, age and accessibility accommodations can be made at any project. There is room for everyone to make an impact.
