Service Project

4th Saturdays Every Month - Building Gardens @ The Lower Eastside Girls Club

September 23, 2023

10:00 AM - 02:00 PM EDT

New York City Platoon

Event overview

Join TMC NYC and The Lower Eastside Girls Club as we build green and civic spaces available to residents throughout Manhattan's Lower East Side!

Every 4th Saturday of each month during 2023, rain or shine until the end of year holiday season, you can help plant gardens, construct planters, build workspaces for arts and crafts, create community spaces, and much more. Together, we will contribute to the Lower Eastside Girls Club's vision of being a resource for all the neighbors and neighborhoods it serves.

4th Saturdays' efforts run 10am through 2pm at the Lower Eastside Girls Club (402 East 8th Street, off 8th Street & Avenue D) in the Alphabet City neighborhood of the Lower East Side. Dress comfortably for garden and crafts work. The following nearby subway stations are within a 15 to 20 minute walk:

- L train at 14th Street & 1st Avenue - 6 train at Astor Place - N, Q, R, and W trains at 8th Street - F train at Houston & 2nd Avenue

All are welcome! Coffee, tea, and snacks will be available. If you would like to coordinate your group's or organization's participation as volunteers, or for any other questions, please reach out to Troy Mack (tmack@missioncontinues.org).

We hope to see you in LES!

Who We Are

In 2025, Travis Manion Foundation (TMF) acquired The Mission Continues, bringing two best-in-class organizations together to provide more opportunities for veterans to find community, lead, and serve. Guided by the ethos “If Not Me, Then Who…,” veterans continue their service, build connections, and thrive in their post-military lives by serving as character role models to youth. As a result, communities prosper and the character of our nation’s heroes lives on in the next generation. Learn more about TMF at travismanion.org

Who should volunteer?

Our service projects are for all veterans with a desire to continue their service and for all non-veterans that want to be part of a nationwide movement to transform communities. Please note, age and accessibility accommodations can be made at any project. There is room for everyone to make an impact.
