Event overview

Bynum Island is a low ropes action/training course that serves schools and community groups throughout the city of Chicago. The course engages the physical, cognitive, and social resources of each participant and challenges them to break away from standard routines and problem solving and require cooperation, goal-setting, creativity, risk-taking, teamwork, communication, accountability, leadership. It also serves as a host to family camping and fishing programs through the Chicago Public Parks. The Mission Continues will work to repair/replace many of the challenges, create new challenges, and add to the capacity of the outdoors programs by building fishing boardwalks, benches, picnic tables, and other public resources. There are more than a dozen obstacle course stations that will we be rebuilding. We are also honored to be teaming with the Pat Tillman Foundation for this event and are excited to bring in other community partners to make an impact in Chicago. Upon registration, please list any specific skills you may have that can assist in this project. Some specific skills we are looking for: - Carpentry/Construction - Landscaping - Painting - Simple concrete work

Who We Are

In 2025, Travis Manion Foundation (TMF) acquired The Mission Continues, bringing two best-in-class organizations together to provide more opportunities for veterans to find community, lead, and serve. Guided by the ethos “If Not Me, Then Who…,” veterans continue their service, build connections, and thrive in their post-military lives by serving as character role models to youth. As a result, communities prosper and the character of our nation’s heroes lives on in the next generation. Learn more about TMF at travismanion.org

Who should volunteer?

Our service projects are for all veterans with a desire to continue their service and for all non-veterans that want to be part of a nationwide movement to transform communities. Please note, age and accessibility accommodations can be made at any project. There is room for everyone to make an impact.
