Operation Military families home clean up Phase 2

February 27, 2021

09:00 AM - 01:00 PM EST

Tampa Platoon

Event overview

To recap … Madelyn is an elderly widow, 82 years old, of Colonel Carl A Haller. Madelyn’s home has gotten away from her over the past few years. There are issues related to her health and safety so anything that we are able to do for her will be very beneficial. The major issues are that the accumulation of items within her home are such that it is not possible to see the floor in most of the home. In addition, there are significant rodent and insect issues. Phase 1 gave us some knowledge of the extent of the effort with a small team being able to clear out about 10% of the home. Phase 2 seeks to accomplish 3 tasks. 1) Completely clear out the remaining 90% of the home. 2) Clear out the back yard of all overgrowth. 3) Clean and disinfect the master bedroom and master bathroom Most of the volunteers will be working outside of the home in the front yard, driveway or backyard. The volunteers who will be inside the home have already been designated and they have the specific skills needed. For all of the other volunteers, no special skills are required. Special Note: Since we are in a pandemic, masks and gloves are mandatory for all volunteers. There will be a dumpster(s) for all debris, including the yard waste from the backyard. A designated set of individuals will bring items from inside the house to the front yard. Volunteers will sort the items as garbage, recycling or re-usable / repair. It is anticipated that 90% will be disposed. Recycling items will be emptied and bagged. The recycling items will be placed in recycling containers without their plastic bags. Usable items will be cleaned, disinfected and stacked on the driveway. Some items will be placed into boxes due to the exterior box needing to be discarded but the contents being good to use. All personal papers, mail or items of value should be placed in a box that will be on a table by Ms. Haller. Ms. Haller and her dog, Hallie (dog is a 13 year old Labrador and is very friendly), will be sitting outside as Ms. Haller cannot stand up for any length of time. Some of you may prefer to work on cleaning up the backyard, which is completely overgrown with weeds and brush. If you may be more interested in that activity, please bring appropriate tools and gloves. There are prickly weeds in the back yard, thus, long pants are recommended. Restrooms available at the Publix at SR 60 and Valrico, about 2 miles south of the home. Please contact me if you have any additional questions. Thank you for your time and generosity! Who We Are

In 2025, Travis Manion Foundation (TMF) acquired The Mission Continues, bringing two best-in-class organizations together to provide more opportunities for veterans to find community, lead, and serve. Guided by the ethos “If Not Me, Then Who…,” veterans continue their service, build connections, and thrive in their post-military lives by serving as character role models to youth. As a result, communities prosper and the character of our nation’s heroes lives on in the next generation. Learn more about TMF at travismanion.org

Who should volunteer?

Our service projects are for all veterans with a desire to continue their service and for all non-veterans that want to be part of a nationwide movement to transform communities. Please note, age and accessibility accommodations can be made at any project. There is room for everyone to make an impact.
