2024 Earth Day Kickoff for 4th Saturdays in the L.E.S.

Event overview

Entering its second year, kickoff the annual 4th Saturdays in the L.E.S. series on Saturday, April 27th, 10am to 3pm, as we get to work caring for neighbors and neighborhoods we love!

In collaboration with the New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA), each and every 4th Saturday this summer we will be building green spaces and community resources throughout Manhattan's Alphabet City.

With your help as a volunteer, it all starts in 2024 at NYCHA Lower East Side II (750 East 6th Street, entrance at the basketball court) when we:

- Build planter boxes with trellises for residents seeking to grow their own gardens
- Construct and decorate bookshelves for families with children, in support of children's literacy and youth education programs
- Host a Community Resource Fair to connect attendees with agencies and services which can help them thrive
- Provide food, music, and entertainment for the whole family

No past building experience is needed, so simply dress comfortably for crafts work. Our team will help you construct the prefabricated kits. We also have supplies available for those who want to help children decorate their new bookshelves. All are welcome!

Spread the word and bring your friends! If you would like to coordinate your group's or organization's participation as volunteers, we appreciate the help. For more info, email

The following subway stations are within a 10 minute walk of this event site: F train at 2nd Avenue, 6 train at Astor Place, R and W trains at 8th Street, and L train at 1st Avenue.
