The Randall’s Island Park Alliance’s Urban Farm is a 40,000 SF environmentally sustainable farm and outdoor classroom started n 2006. Since its inception the Urban Farm has grown in size and scope–providing tens of thousands of New York City ́s youths the opportunity to understand where their food comes from and the knowledge to make educated decisions around eating and preparing food that’s healthy for them, their communities, and the planet. Through hands-on classes focused on the environment, animal care, and healthy cooking, students learn essential life skills and concepts that support their academic learning.
This year The Park Alliance will be partnering with Central Park East II, an elementary and middle school in East Harlem, to pilot a sequence of classes for 1st – 3rd graders, and an after school program for 6th – 8th graders. However, their existing infrastructure is not up to the increased scope.
That’s where The Mission Continues and Her Mission comes in! In honor of Women’s History month we will be rebuilding some of the urban farms existing but the dilapidated infrastructure to include garden beds as well as repairing some rice patties. We will also be constructing new compost pins and some universally accessible raised garden beds.
So come join us as we celebrate Women’s History month and make a difference, Charlie Mike!
