9/11 Day of Service

September 14, 2019

09:00 AM - 02:00 PM MDT

Denver Platoon

Event overview

Join us for some MAINTENANCE and some FUN!! We will be doing some outdoor painting; touching up some play spaces, fixing the mascot mural, and fixing & painting some outdoor furniture. Afterwards, some BARBECUE and GAMES with the kids! Tennyson Center for Children serves children ages 5-18 who have experienced severe abuse, neglect and/or trauma so they can bravely, and safely, change their life’s story. For the past 112 years, Tennyson’s trained professionals have empowered children and families by providing a child-centered, customized approach to healing through our Community-Based, School, and/or Residential programs. In 2016, Tennyson Center surged past 1 million hours per year of direct care to children and families across Colorado. The outcome of this work is considerable, including keeping 96.3% of the kids in the Community-Based Services program in safe homes while in treatment, dramatically reducing hospitalization and crisis stabilization requirements for 83.2% of the children served, while keeping 98% of the kids in school (no expulsions). Tennyson Center works with some of the hardest cases in Colorado, with kids averaging 6-8 foster placements before they even come to Tennyson. Tennyson Center’s results are remarkable, and scaling.

Who We Are

In 2025, Travis Manion Foundation (TMF) acquired The Mission Continues, bringing two best-in-class organizations together to provide more opportunities for veterans to find community, lead, and serve. Guided by the ethos “If Not Me, Then Who…,” veterans continue their service, build connections, and thrive in their post-military lives by serving as character role models to youth. As a result, communities prosper and the character of our nation’s heroes lives on in the next generation. Learn more about TMF at travismanion.org

Who should volunteer?

Our service projects are for all veterans with a desire to continue their service and for all non-veterans that want to be part of a nationwide movement to transform communities. Please note, age and accessibility accommodations can be made at any project. There is room for everyone to make an impact.
