Event overview

On December 15th, 2018 we will be placing wreaths on graves of our veterans, at the Cemetery of the Alleghenies. This year, Homewood Platoon has secured a coach bus to transport volunteers, including some of Homewood's youth. The wreath laying ceremonies will take place from 11:15 AM - 1:00 PM in Bridgeville. Afterwards, we will be returning to the Homewood YMCA and hosting a holiday celebration where volunteers will be asked to connect with local youth, participate in activities with them, and share stories of their military experience and continued service. ***The coach bus is limited to 40 seats. FIRST REGISTERED WILL RECEIVE PRIORITY.*** The event logistics are as followed: 9:30 AM - 10:00 AM Meet at Homewood field (Willie Stargell Field - 547 N Lang Ave, Pittsburgh, PA 15208) - free coffee. hot chocolate and donuts will be served 10:00 AM - 11:15 AM Travel to the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies; ***Charter bus will be leaving sharply at 10 AM**** 11:15 AM - 1:00 PM Wreaths Across America ceremony/Wreath laying 1:00 PM - 1:15 PM Load back onto charter bus 1:15 PM - 2:00 PM Travel to Homewood YMCA 2:00 PM - 5:00 PM Holiday celebration featuring DJ Tuffy Tuff at Homewood YMCA - free food for registered attendees IT IS VERY IMPORTANT TO REGISTER ONLINE FOR THIS EVENT DUE TO LIMITED SEATING AND ENSURING WE HAVE ENOUGH FOOD. Who We Are

The Mission Continues is a national non-profit that empowers veterans to continue serving in our nation’s under-resourced communities, giving veterans the opportunity to keep serving even after the uniform comes off, right here at home. Our programs deploy veterans and volunteers to work alongside nonprofit partners and community leaders to improve educational resources, tackle food insecurity, foster neighborhood identity, and more.  

Who should volunteer?

Our service projects are for all veterans with a desire to continue their service and for all non-veterans that want to be part of a nationwide movement to transform communities. Please note, age and accessibility accommodations can be made at any project. There is room for everyone to make an impact.

What is a Service Platoon? 

Service Platoons are your opportunity to engage and connect with veterans and community members while generating community impact in a real and tangible way. Led by veteran volunteer platoon leaders, each platoon works with dedicated community partners and volunteers to provide the manpower and support that they need to help them do their work more effectively. 

We currently have service platoons in more than 40+ cities across the country that are having events at least once a month. Everyone is invited to serve, regardless of veteran status: a service platoon is for you if you have a passion for service.
