MLK Day of Service at Sankofa Market

January 13, 2018

09:00 AM - 12:00 PM CST

New Orleans Platoon

Event overview

NOLA 1st Service Platoon will be conducting our Martin Luther King Day of Service event in partnership with Sankofa Market. We are very excited to be working with Sankofa Market and supporting them in the amazing work that they do in our great city. Sankofa's Fresh Stop Market is where neighborhood residents of the Lower Ninth Ward can purchase healthy, fresh and affordable food, most of which is grown locally at Sankofa's own gardens. Sankofa's goal is to support the creation of a local environment that promotes positive health outcomes and builds healthier communities for generations to come. To learn more about Sankofa visit their website at http://sankofanola.org/ We will be doing light construction and area beautification. Specifically, we will be putting in a deck with wheelchair access, shade sails and a large display table for the selling of fruits and vegetables. No experience is necessary. We will have professionals on hand to guide you every step of the project. Children are welcome at this event. As always, lunch and refreshments will be provided. Please register so that we can provide the right amount of food for this event. Let's Charlie Mike!

Who We Are

In 2025, Travis Manion Foundation (TMF) acquired The Mission Continues, bringing two best-in-class organizations together to provide more opportunities for veterans to find community, lead, and serve. Guided by the ethos “If Not Me, Then Who…,” veterans continue their service, build connections, and thrive in their post-military lives by serving as character role models to youth. As a result, communities prosper and the character of our nation’s heroes lives on in the next generation. Learn more about TMF at travismanion.org

Who should volunteer?

Our service projects are for all veterans with a desire to continue their service and for all non-veterans that want to be part of a nationwide movement to transform communities. Please note, age and accessibility accommodations can be made at any project. There is room for everyone to make an impact.
