The Mission Continues 1st Platoon serves the Kashmere Gardens Communityand is led by Marine veteran Jose Rodriguez.

Kashmere Gardens, located north of Fifth Ward along Loop 610 (N. Loop E.), is a historically African-American Neighborhood. It is an area of modest single-family homes, many on large lots. Some areas are wooded. Kashmere Gardens has struggled as a community in recent years due to the lack of resources available to its residents.

Residents of Kashmere Gardens are zoned to seven schools that are operated by the Houston Independent School District. The main feeder pattern includes Kashmere Gardens Elementary, McGowen Elementary, Elmore Elementary, Cook Elementary, Paige Elementary, Key Middle School, and Kashmere High School. Several of the aforementioned schools have a history of failing to meet Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP), with Kashmere High School and Key Middle School failing to meet accountability standards on a regular basis. Kashmere High School, in particular, has been recommended for closure in recent years.

The Mission Continues has partnered with Pro Unitas and will focus on three schools: Kashmere Gardens Elementary, Key Middle School and Kashmere High School. Our efforts will provide students (ages 4-18) and their families, with access to community gardens, community clinic and mentorship programs.

Please join us as we strive to make in impact in the Kashmere Garden community!
