Earth Day 2024-Joint VSO Project at Rio Salado Habitat Restoration Area

April 20, 2024

07:45 AM - 10:00 AM MST

Phoenix Platoon

Event overview

This project will bring together volunteers from six different VSO's: TMC, Team Rubicon, Wounded Warrior Project, Travis Manion Foundation, Team RWB and Valors Veterans Community AZ. We will be doing a variety of trail maintenance-related tasks including removing brush, trash, weeds and undergrowth and invasive plants/grasses; we may be trimming trees and possibly be painting over graffiti. NOTE: This project will be in and near the Salt River bottom with uneven terrain and associated hazards. Please no children under 13. We will meet at the listed address, which is a trailhead for the park and has restrooms. Look for blue TMC t-shirts and our banner. Water will be provided but you must bring a refillable water bottle. There is about a 1/4 mile trail walk to the project sites and we will be negotiating rough terrain (river rocks, mud, debris) at the project sites. Please dress in clothes and shoes that can get dirty/muddy. Close toed shoes a must! There will be shade as we will be working under and around the 7th Avenue bridge.

Who We Are

In 2025, Travis Manion Foundation (TMF) acquired The Mission Continues, bringing two best-in-class organizations together to provide more opportunities for veterans to find community, lead, and serve. Guided by the ethos “If Not Me, Then Who…,” veterans continue their service, build connections, and thrive in their post-military lives by serving as character role models to youth. As a result, communities prosper and the character of our nation’s heroes lives on in the next generation. Learn more about TMF at travismanion.org

Who should volunteer?

Our service projects are for all veterans with a desire to continue their service and for all non-veterans that want to be part of a nationwide movement to transform communities. Please note, age and accessibility accommodations can be made at any project. There is room for everyone to make an impact.
