Event overview

Where We’re Serving
Join us for a day of service on Monday, June 12th at the Atlanta Beltline Westside Trail! The Atlanta Beltline is a 22-mile network of multi-use trails that will, when completed in 2030, connect 45 neighborhoods in Atlanta in a loop around the city. The Beltline includes streetcars and parks, and is built on old railroad corridors that encircle the city. The Beltline’s Westside Trail is a 3-mile corridor that runs through the Westside neighborhoods, and will open in late summer, 2017. The trail includes a number of “bump out” green spaces that are currently just vacant lots, but that the Beltline envisions as gathering places, picnic areas, and gateways to the Westside Trail.
What We’ll Be Doing
Our participants will Install a post/rail fence lining the street, create open grass area in middle of park, create a tunnel like pergola connecting street to Beltline, clear out brush/debris/invasive species/dumping, create benches and picnic tables, assemble decking for a small foot bridge, create a small set of stairs, and grade a mulch path through some large trees near the site.
The Activities
There’s a purpose behind each project at the Beltline’s Westside Trail. Check out the various activities taking place throughout the day: Let’s plant - Fig trees will create a decorative and delicious border along with decorative low maintenance plants throughout the grounds. Let’s play - Transform the interior lot into an open space lawn for families to play and relax. Let’s declutter - Before we can beautify we need to make a clean slate by removing invasive overgrowth, trash and brush. Let’s beautify - Welcome guests to the beltway with a landscaped entrance and trail to create a marked path for entry. Let’s build - Construct a dual purpose shade structure to keep users cool and function as a rain catchment system for the garden beds. Let’s demo - Tear out and replace existing fencing to create a more welcoming atmosphere for the community.
The Service Impact
Be part of launching Atlanta’s Beltline Westside Trail! Our day of service will help to create the needed green spaces along the trail, adding value to this awesome trail and the community it serves. To make sure our impact remains, our local Atlanta Service Platoons and fellows will work to maintain the progress achieved throughout the day. We appreciate your support and your time. Volunteers are welcome to work for all or a portion of the project day.

Who We Are

In 2025, Travis Manion Foundation (TMF) acquired The Mission Continues, bringing two best-in-class organizations together to provide more opportunities for veterans to find community, lead, and serve. Guided by the ethos “If Not Me, Then Who…,” veterans continue their service, build connections, and thrive in their post-military lives by serving as character role models to youth. As a result, communities prosper and the character of our nation’s heroes lives on in the next generation. Learn more about TMF at travismanion.org

Who should volunteer?

Our service projects are for all veterans with a desire to continue their service and for all non-veterans that want to be part of a nationwide movement to transform communities. Please note, age and accessibility accommodations can be made at any project. There is room for everyone to make an impact.
