Service Project

MLK Day of Service

January 21, 2019

09:30 AM - 02:30 PM CST

St. Louis Platoon

Event overview

This event has reached maximum capacity with over 100 volunteers and registration is now closed. Additional events will be posted soon. Join The Mission Continues and Americorps VISTA members from across the region as we serve in honor of the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. We will be in the St. Louis Promise Zone. The Promise Zone’s six goals include increasing economic activity, increasing workforce readiness, improving educational outcomes, improving health & wellness, reducing serious & violent crime and developing sustainable communities. Our service will take place at Twillman Elementary School, where we will be assisting with catching up on general maintenance items that are currently backlogged. This will include repairing walls, floorboards, painting doorways and trim, stairs, and other items. The school also needs to replace a small set of lower cabinets in the teacher's lounge that are badly water damaged. This would include removing and reinstalling the sink. If anyone has this expertise or has connections to someone who does, please contact us.

Who We Are

In 2025, Travis Manion Foundation (TMF) acquired The Mission Continues, bringing two best-in-class organizations together to provide more opportunities for veterans to find community, lead, and serve. Guided by the ethos “If Not Me, Then Who…,” veterans continue their service, build connections, and thrive in their post-military lives by serving as character role models to youth. As a result, communities prosper and the character of our nation’s heroes lives on in the next generation. Learn more about TMF at travismanion.org

Who should volunteer?

Our service projects are for all veterans with a desire to continue their service and for all non-veterans that want to be part of a nationwide movement to transform communities. Please note, age and accessibility accommodations can be made at any project. There is room for everyone to make an impact.
