New York City’s 8.5 million residents share over 600 parks, and many have fallen into disrepair. The Mission Continues Staten Island Service Platoon will work alongside the National Parks Service, New York City Parks, and Partnerships for Parks on community beautification and youth empowerment projects. In 2015, the New York City Service Platoons participated in a large-scale service project where 40 tons of debris and refuse were removed from Fort Wadsworth. The newly launched Staten Island Platoon will participate in four major events that will revitalize local national and city parks in 2017, which will provide an additional 100,000 New York City residents the opportunity to enjoy green spaces in a bustling city.
