Leading For All is The Mission Continues’ newest leadership initiative to prepare veterans to lead in a way that truly brings people together. This intensive will allow veteran leaders to create and cultivate an environment where all feel valued and respected. Veterans will strengthen their self-awareness and learn practical applications to ensure they can lead in an inclusive and equitable manner that leverages the unique qualities, experiences, mindsets, and strengths that come together with a diverse population.

Through understanding their own and others’ perspectives and experiences, veteran leaders will be better prepared to seek out, consider, and factor those perspectives to more effectively lead in various areas of their lives.

Benefits:

  • Develop the skills and knowledge to lead effectively in the diverse groups that you are working and serving in
  • Engage in various methods of instruction including scenario-based learning, individual reflections
  • Hear from and network with subject matter experts, guest speakers, community members, and Mission Continues team members
  • Join our nationwide network of veteran alumni
  • All travel expenses are paid to travel to cities for in-person sessions, no application or program tuition fees

Registration Process:

Eligibility:

  • Eager to learn and grow, and have a desire to build your leadership skills
  • Interested in collaborative team-based work with other veterans

  • Comfortable engaging in an in-person learning environment
  • US Military veteran (or current member of the National Guard or Reserves)
  • Must reside in one of our eligible cities

The curriculum for Leading For All is designed to be an interactive, immersive learning experience that prepares veteran leaders to:

  • Learn to lead more inclusively where you live, work, or serve
  • Build confidence in leading diverse groups towards a common goal
  • Develop an understanding of your own and others’ biases
  • Explore the influence of social and positional power dynamics
  • Strengthen skills for navigating difficult conversations
  • Build a network of diverse veterans from across the country
  • Generate visible impact through a volunteer experience in our host city

Throughout the three-day intensive, veteran leaders will have the opportunity to engage in scenario-based learning with subject matter experts, small group conversations, panel discussions with veteran leaders, role-playing activities, and an opportunity to practice service leadership in the local community. Additionally, participants will receive support to apply their new knowledge and skills to develop a concrete action plan for inclusive leadership practices in their own contexts beyond this intensive. The aim of the weekend is to provide veteran leaders with exposure to varying experiences and perspectives — including their own — that facilitate their understanding that inclusive leadership leads to better solutions in diverse settings.
