Denver Platoon

Event overview

Hey Denver Service Platoon! We have an awesome opportunity to support the great team at Extreme Community right here in our backyard! Here are the details: Time– 8:30 am Location – Crossroads of the Rockies (2707 West Mississippi Avenue, Denver, 80219) Logistics: Everyone will meet at the above location at 8:30 am. When people arrive, they will need to check-in at the registration table. We will have the kick-off, starting around 9:00 am, where we’ll have some speakers, cover logistics for the day, and then we’ll split up into project groups. Liability Forms: Please make sure EVERYONE participating completes this form ahead of time. It needs to be filled out online (not printed out). There will be a check-in sheet at the registration table with names of those who have completed the form. If your name is on the list, you’re done. If your name is not on the list, you will have to fill out a paper copy. It saves so much time on Saturday morning if you ensure that all your group members have this done ahead of time. The updated check-in list is attached so you know who has completed the form and who needs to fill it out. There are two versions, depending on age…. •17 and Under – http://www.extremecommunitymakeover.org/parentalconsent •18 and Over – http://www.extremecommunitymakeover.org/liabilitywaiver T-Shirts: We will be selling ECM t-shirts for $10 each. Buying a t-shirt is a great way to support the overall efforts of ECM and also creates a presence in the neighborhood when people see everyone with the same color t-shirt on – it means that there’s something consistent happening! So please encourage your group members to bring $10 to get a t-shirt so that we can be seen in the neighborhood and bring some funds in for ECM at the same time. You could also get a t-shirt for each volunteer in your group so you all match for the day! Participation Contribution: As mentioned in the info previously shared, we ask that each group contribute $10 per person to participate in Go: Westwood, which helps cover some of our expenses for the day. I would like to avoid dealing with money on April 22 though, since there will be a lot going on. You can either write one check for your group and mail the check in ahead of time (to the address is in my signature line below) or mail the check afterward. If you would like to pay via credit card, it would be easiest to do that at our PayPal page - http://www.extremecommunitymakeover.org/paypal/. If you need an invoice, I’m happy to get that to you after the day is finished as well. Projects: Here are the projects we will be doing. Some projects have a limited number of people available (like the projects at the schools), but if you have a preference about which project your group does, please let me know by the end of the day on Thursday. If I don’t hear from you by then, I will assign you to one of the projects. · Alameda Avenue clean-up · Alley clean-ups · Castro Elementary – art/mural project · Graffiti removal · Knapp Elementary – alley clean-up project · Morrison Road clean-up · Munroe Elementary – art/mural & garden project Tools & Supplies: We will allocate some tools and supplies to each group to use for your projects, but since we’re expecting 500ish volunteers, we could really use your help bringing additional tools. If you can ask your group members to bring additional brooms, rakes, shovels, trimmers/loppers, and dustpans, that would be really helpful. Just make sure that everyone bringing tools labels their tools. I would also encourage people to bring work gloves along. Debris: We will rent 30-yard dumpsters for trash and debris. Each dumpster location will also have a port-o-potty. Command Center: The ECM office (4200 Morrison Road, Unit 3, Denver, 80219) will be the location for the Command Center. This will be staffed by key volunteers throughout the day and will be the place to go if you have questions, need first aid, need extra tools or supplies, etc. Any of the extra lunches will end up here as well. Lunch: You will get a box lunch at check-in. Once you connect with your project teams, you will make a plan about when and where you want to eat lunch. End Time: We will plan to wrap up projects by 3:00 pm. All of the tools and supplies that you borrowed at the beginning of the day will need to be returned to the Command Center, not taken to the park where the block party is taking place. Block Party: The block party will take place at Westwood Park (4951 West Kentucky Avenue, Denver, 80219) from 3:00-4:00 pm. We will have music and more food – Chipotle style burrito bowls – as a way to celebrate everyone’s hard work. Rockies Tickets: As I’ve mentioned in previous emails, I will guarantee the number of Rockies tickets based on the number of liability forms completed by the end of the day tomorrow, Wednesday, April 12. After that, you will still need to submit liability forms, but I will distribute tickets accordingly. If I were to pull tickets now, here’s how many each group would get: · Abraham Lincoln High School Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps – 0 tickets · BuCu West – 0 tickets · Castro Elementary – 10 tickets · Cornerstone Baptist Church – 35 tickets · Educational Talent Search – 0 tickets · Gen X Christian Singles – 0 tickets · Knapp Knights – 0 tickets · Lisa’s Friends – 5 tickets · Munroe Elementary School – 75 tickets · North Highland Consulting – 30 tickets · Redeemer Lutheran Church – 5 tickets · Shiny Riff-Raff – 5 tickets · South Pearl – 15 tickets · The Mission Continues – 0 tickets · Westwood Unidos – 0 tickets · Westwood Unidos Safety Committee – 160 tickets
