3RD ANNUAL SORTING SOLDIERS HOME AGRICULTURE RESTORATION PROJECT

September 08, 2017

09:00 AM - 03:00 PM PDT

Tacoma Platoon

Event overview

On this years National Day of Service, The Tacoma 1st Platoon will once join forces with the Veteran Conservation Corps and the Washington Department of Veterans Affairs, to transform underutilized land at the Washington State Soldiers Home and Colony into shared spaces that will empower Soldiers Home Veterans and the Orting, WA community as a whole. This will be our third Service Project at the farm, with the year coming full circle, while we continue to make an impact. And just like last year, our awesome Lead Sponsors over at Expedia will be joining us. This will be an intense and high impact project that includes building demolition and debris removal, prairie restoration, development of a native tree nursery and agripreneurship plots, and wetland mitigation and restoration. This project is continuing to build on the foundation set over the last two years, for a long term strategy by the Veterans Conservation Corps to protect the natural resources of the Soldiers Home and surrounding area while unlocking the healing potential of ecotherapy for our Veterans. We will celebrate our good work with some social food and activities after we get dirty for the cause.
