Join 2nd Platoon as we partner with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center (VAMC) as they host the 23rd Annual Winterhaven/Stand-Down for Homeless Veterans at the VAMC. The stand down offers VA health care, benefits assistance and services, as well as one-on-one housing and employment counseling, solutions and resources for homeless, at-risk and underemployed Veterans. As a vulnerable population your efforts this day will no doubt assist the VAMC in addressing contributing factors associated with homelessness, including; employment and education counseling, financial planning, substance abuse and rehabilitative programs and psycho-social services. During the stand-down Veterans will also receive health assessments, HIV testing, specialty care exams including dental, podiatry and audiology as well as warm clothing, boots, haircuts, personal care packs and a warm meal. Last year an overwhelming number (700+) of homeless veterans came through the medical center for this event. The gratitude expressed by them when receiving cold weather gear, medical treatment and new boots was palpable.
