Houston 4th Platoon is extremely excited to host 2017 MLK Day of Service with our partner organization, Recipe 4 Success! We are addressing childhood obesity and food deserts in the Houston area by focusing on community farming. 4th platoon members are learning how to build gardens and in the future, will apply what we have learned in communities that do not have access to fresh produce. But first we are starting here at Hope Farms in Sunnyside, Houston! In Honor of Martin Luther King Day, we will come together as a community work hand in hand, by giving back. Below are some of the projects we will work on for this 2017 year MLK Day of Service: • Construct greenhouse; build interior tables/shelving; lay flooring: • Build 14 raised beds creating 1200 square feet for production • Plant 20 fruit trees (with mulch) • Clear fence line • Move site debris left over from land clearing • Field work (weeding, clearing pathways) • Pathway mulch/wood chipping • Potential work related to pole barn construction • And various other projects Please note: Breakfast and registration will occur from 8:30 to 9:00. Event will begin promptly at 9:00 am. This is what community is all about! Working together! Making a difference! Continuing our service! CHARLIE MIKE!
