This is it! The new Seattle 2nd Platoon is finally up and running, and we are about to take on our first ever Service Project - The Quil Ceda Tulalip Elementary School. In partnership with the School, as well as the Veterans Department of the Tulalip Tribe, we're bringing a little TMC to these amazing kids. Here's a little background on this awesome school... Quil Ceda Tulalip Elementary is located in the Marysville School District in Washington State with an enrollment of 540 students in grades Kindergarten through 5th Grade. The school provides a rich learning environment blending the Tulalip Culture with Common Core Standards to improve student learning. They celebrate culture each day with their Morning Assembly in the gym at 9:20 am which lasts about 10 minutes. Students lead traditional drumming and singing, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance and inspirational daily messages from staff. The students are thriving with new learning approaches. As one third grader student wrote on a pre-test: "I don't know this yet, but I will know it after you teach it to me." On November 12th, 2016, we'll be building six (6) beautiful benches...one for each grade to care for and be responsible for. Additionally, we will be painting a Tribal Nations Map, so that the kids can learn about their culture as well as their common core requirements. And yes...kids are welcome as long as they are accompanied by an adult family member. This one is going to be awesome...so spread the word, and let's support these future leaders.
